Intro: Finding Meaning Again.

25 Random Acts of Kindness
November 30th 2012

When I was a kid I was really into Christmas. I mean really, really into Christmas. Christmas was just plain magical; the lights, the music, the good will. From the day after Thanksgiving when we put up our tree until Christmas morning I was filled to the brim with joy.  As I grown older, it has become more difficult with each year to find that feeling. So that is why I am here, to chase that high. It becomes far too easy to make Christmas about the wrong things. It is far too easy to turn Christmas into a task or burden. It is far too easy—if I may use a Polar Express reference—not to be able to hear the bell anymore. So I thought, what does Christmas mean to me? Christmas is a time for peace, good will, love, and family. Plain and simple. So starting December 1st I will be attempting to complete 25 random acts of Christmas kindness. The guidelines I have given myself are threefold:

  1.   At least one act everyday until Christmas. No matter how big or how small, one time daily where I make the conscious effort to think outside myself and of others.
  2.  Saying YES! While I have preplanned some of my acts I believe that some of the acts will present themselves. When they do I have to be able to just say yes and go with the flow.
  3.  Document my actions as a means of reflection and a platform to share with others. Try to leave vanity and self out of the equation.

I am excited. I have no clue what to expect but I hope that it keeps the magic alive.

“What if Christmas, the Grinch thought, doesn’t come from the store? What if Christmas perhaps means a little bit more?”—Dr. Seuss.
